InSofar

A place of many names (e.g. "Sultry Lions", "Gone Fishin'", "InSoFar" among others), 1014 s. 47th St. houses an intentional community of three close families with a shared appreciation of food, queer community, and anything nerdy. Currently six adults and two children, InSoFarians have informally adopted the post-punk governance of a "do-ocracy," valuing consensus but privileging the decisions of those who take action, dammit! Collectively (as a house, not counting individual affiliations), InSoFish has membership in eight distinct co-ops that support our household (including of course the LCA and NASCO) in everything from composting to green/ renewable energy, and from food to finances. InSoFicientes can communicate in a combined total of 11 languages, (including English and ASL).
As community organizers we work directly to support democratic media, cooperative education, art and pedagogy, food justice, queer parenting, upkeep of neighborhood homes, and economic development of the "solidarity economy." When we're not being over-achievers (!), we enjoy reading stories to our kids, making math-based crafts with 6-year-olds, sipping beer on our back porch, and watching (collectively) pretty much every science fiction or fantasy television show released in the US or UK. Since moving into the LCA we have as a community, enjoyed the fictional writings of Suzanne Collins, George R.R. Martin, JK Rowling, Scott Westerfeld, and Cory Doctorow. Our house library has its own digital card catalog.
Intentional LCA community since 2008
