Job Description: LCA Member Services Coordinator
General Job Description:

The Membership Coordinator oversees the process of integrating new residents into the LCA, and supporting education, database administration, policy tracking, and governance for LCA members. The Membership Coordinator reports to the LCA Board of Directors, Executive Officers, and Education Committee.


Major Job Responsibilities:

  • Manage and support LCA membership communication, education, conflict resolution, and record keeping
  • Assist with scheduling LCA community education workshops
  • Support LCA members by arranging for mediation of conflicts between organization members when necessary
  • Schedule LCA Community workshops with Education Committee
  • Progress and track member leases & contracts
  • Design and maintain forms, advertisements, graphics, and print and Web materials
  • Create, update, maintain LCA membership database of all adult members
    • Figure out who needs to pay NASCO dues
    • keep track of subletters
    • track "membership status" including signed leases, orientation attended, GMM attended, move-in month & year
    • collect contact information for LCA members
  • Ensure that new member orientations are scheduled 2– 3 times/ year
  • Maintain google calendar of LCA meetings and events
  • Compile and distribute monthly calendar of LCA meetings & events
  • Update policy manual with board and membership decisions
  • Create policy manual consistent with current bylaws
  • Maintain "LCA member handbook" and reprint each year with updated structure and procedures
  • Answer membership questions and public inquiries, and direct questions to the appropriate person in the LCA.
  • Consult with Board and committees on various policies as necessary.
  • Keep relevant statistics and report to Board and management as necessary.
  • Supervise Interns


Required Qualifications:
  • Project management experience
  • Ability to effectively teach various topics to a diverse audience
  • Focused attention to detail
  • Outstanding oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Exceptional time management skills
  • Ability to self-start and complete work with minimal day-to-day supervision
  • Experience and comfort working with diverse communities
  • Proficient spreadsheet, database, and computer literacy
  • Ability to flexibly work irregular daytime, evening, and weekend hours
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Policy development experience
  • Prior work as an educator, including curriculum development
  • Prior management experience with non-profit, cooperative, and/ or housing organizations
  • Experience with human resources management or organization charts/ structure
  • Experience with Horizontal Organizations
  • Experience with consensus decision making processes
  • Experience managing legal affairs
  • Deep understanding of systems of oppression
  • Conflict mediation facilitation
  • Experience with tenant-landlord mediation
  • Web-management skills
  • Knowledge of housing and tenant-landlord law
  • Financial literacy
  • Interest in learning new skills


Compensation and Benefits: This is an independent contractor position for 8–12 hours/ month at $20-25/ hour (depending on experience). It does not include benefits.

About the LCA:

Founded in 1971, the Life Center Association (LCA) is a community land trust and cooperative of 50 people living in 8 houses in West Philadelphia.

The LCA exists to promote neighborhood stability, combat community deterioration, and provide relief to the poor, distressed and underprivileged by providing quality, affordable housing to low to moderate income individuals, relief agencies, and tax exempt organizations in the Cedar Park neighborhood of West Philadelphia.

The LCA also engages in educational activities concerning the use of land trusts as a tool and strategy to promote neighborhood stability, combat community deterioration, provide relief to the poor, and create a more just society through non-violent action, responsible use of resources and economic democracy.
